Ways to help fight the flu

Get your flu shot — It can lower your risk by 60% and is included for free with your plan.

Keep your hands clean — The flu virus spreads easily and can live on hard surfaces for up to 48 hours. Wash your hands often with soap and water. You can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to help stop the spread of germs.

Boost your immune system — Get rest, regular exercise and eat healthy to help your body stay strong and fight off viruses.

What to do if you get sick:
  1. If you do get sick, make sure to contact your health care provider as soon as any symptoms appear and ask about antivirals.1 It's best if you can start taking antiviral drugs within the first 48 hours after your symptoms start. It may reduce your illness and help you feel better sooner.1
  2. Help stop the spread of the flu by staying home if you feel sick and for 24 hours after having a fever.
  3. While at home, wash your hands after coughing or blowing your nose, get lots of rest, and drink plenty of fluids.
